As I’ve have been listening to dance remixes, I always wondered how DJs transition and mix between each track, while maintaining the tempo at a constant. Obviously, with technology these days, it isn’t that difficult but still requires some bit of skill. Imagine the days of turntables and a mixer board only.

I guess DJs are a spontaneous bunch of skilful sound engineers.

Hmm, get a cheapo USB sound card, and some DJ software like Traktor Pro.

You can do a 4-deck setup, and use 2 of them to playback through the monitor output.

So you can actually experiment, then add cues here and there, then just clicking the right button and crossfading when the time comes.

They also come with BPM detectors and BPM matching :-)

If you’re looking for something simpler to start off, FutureDecks Pro also gives quite a good virtual DJ interface, albeit with 2-decks only.
